Quick Hits – Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 3

  • It took me longer than usual to write this post because I had to rewatch the episode – I honestly didn’t know if I liked it or not, and to be fair I still am not sure.
  • John Walker’s being reinforced as someone who isn’t meant to be Captain America; there’s also some not-so-thinly veiled subtext that he’s chasing the Flag Smashers so he can get the super serum for himself.
  • The whole Zemo thing is odd – does he hate The Avengers or super soldiers? Bucky needs to see him alone because Sam’s an Avenger, but then two minutes later Zemo’s tormenting Bucky over his list of people he wronged. Having said all that – the escape scene was great cinema.
  • It’s fun to see Zemo as an anti-hero, but I hate having to wait for his eventual turn. He’s not all of a sudden going to be pals with the good guys.
  • Could Sharon Carter be any more obvious as The Power Broker? Maybe I’m wrong, but her first words on screen are asking “Who killed Selby” – meanwhile, she’s shown to be the one with the sniper rifle saving Bucky and Sam from a perched position. Everybody received pardons and she somehow didn’t? Nah – she found a more lucrative lifestyle. Power to her. And this could be a misdirect, because it seems weird to have her visibly be the one with the sniper rifle.
  • I finally need to watch Black Panther, because I have no idea the significance of what happened at the end of the episode.
