It was announced this week that Black Widow had an official release date, simultaneously in theatres and on streaming. I remember seeing pictures of David Harbour as Red Guardian from at least a year ago so it feels like this movie already came out. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow had a steady presence throughout the Avengers movies as both a badass fighter and an adept quipper; I’m curious where this movie takes things and will be there to find out.
Speaking of ScarJo, I think there needs to be some kind of investigative journalism piece done on the hairstyle changes throughout Black Widow’s many appearances on screen. I don’t have screenshots at the moment but she went from an introduction in Iron Man 2 with super long dark red curls to her tragic ending in Infinity War with a peroxide blonde/sort of amber roots thing going on. Basically what I’m saying is she left Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel in the dust a long time ago and not enough people are talking about it.
I still struggle with why Captain America had to go full martyr at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger. Recapping, Captain America defeats Red Skull on an airship traveling westward across the Atlantic Ocean. This airship has bomber planes it deploys, each with a US city’s designation on it. Once Cap has control of the airship he contacts his allies and explains he needs to purposely crash to protect everyone. That’s noble and all, but Captain America definitely had other options. Peggy Carter asked if she could get Howard Stark involved to help but Cap said there was no time. Logically, this is insane. Captain America could have started turning the plane in a long looping circle over the Atlantic Ocean, burning up fuel while they figured out his approximate position. Once they were ready just take the plane down and abandon ship while they recover good ol’ Cap. He could have survived longer than any human bobbing about in the Atlantic, so it’s not impossible. Then I thought about how him being frozen is a necessary part of the character and overall story, so I moved on.
