Alex Catches Up: 2021

I am bad at watching new movies. Like, really bad. Not necessarily films that just came out in theatres; more like something that happened and I didn’t notice for whatever reason.

Here’s what I’ve seen so far since starting my Alex Catches Up project.

  • Tucker & Dale vs Evil [2010] – This was a great dark comedy with an insane premise and I was pleased at every gruesome yet silly death. I assumed going into the movie that Alan Tudyk would have been more of the lead but nope, and that was just fine.
  • 12 Hour Shift [2020] – A very recent horror film with lots of style and glitz. It definitely reminded me of The Re-Animator for some reason. The characters and how they’re portrayed really make this movie chug along. Lots of Fargo vibes due to varyingly terrible people running around doing questionable things.
  • Doctor Strange [2016] – What’s that, not a horror movie? I finally had to catch up on Dr. Stephen Strange’s MCU origin story, as he was one of the more interesting characters from Infinity War. I absolutely loved it. The film goes back and forth from earthy tones to insane cosmic visualizations making me wish I saw it in the theatre or even IMAX. Benedict Wong also kicks ass, as usual, playing Wong the Librarian. I thought the movie could have used more of him but after he was given so many one-liners in IW he’ll almost certainly have a bigger role in this movie’s sequel.
